Scott A. Kislin has over 25 years of legal experience working at some of the top law firms in the U.S. and in-house as General Counsel of several alternative investment firms.
Over half of Scott’s legal career was spent doing transactional work at some of the top law firms in the country, including 6 years as a partner in the New York office of national law firm Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP. His practice focused on corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, venture capital investments and private equity funds. Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business ranked Mr. Kislin among the top Corporate lawyers in New York in 2006 and 2007.
In 2007, Scott left law firm life to work in-house at a client in the alternative investment management space. For the next 11 years, Scott was the top lawyer at several multi-billion dollar investment firms where he was a part of the senior management team. Scott is experienced in Investment Advisors Act and registered investment advisor issues, public and private investment transactions and also the multitude of issues that affect any complicated, growing mid-size business in the financial services and/or technology industries. These issues included executive compensation, employment/HR, real estate, and vendor and technology agreements.
Scott now focuses his practice on helping on businesses accomplish their goals and manage legal risk, whether handling specific assignments for clients or helping clients as a part-time, “out-sourced” General Counsel. Having been on both sides of the table (as outside counsel and in-house General Counsel), Scott understands the importance of combining commercial judgment with cost-effective legal advice while avoiding “over lawyering.” Scott hates billing by the hour, and knows that most clients hate paying their lawyer by the hour, so ask about alternative billing arrangements.
Scott earned his J.D. degree from the Columbia University School of Law, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone scholar. He received an undergraduate degree magna cum laude from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he majored in accounting and public policy. Scott is admitted to practice in New York.
