Andrew J. Costa is an Associate in the firm’s intellectual property (“IP”) and litigation practices. Andrew works on a variety of IP and commercial litigation matters including trademark infringement, trade secrets misappropriation, and patent infringement disputes.  He also assists in trademark prosecution, copyright licensing, and other IP and business tort-related counseling.

Andrew actively participates in several professional organizations, including the American Bar Association’s IP Law Section where he serves on the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Task Force. As a member of the Task Force, Andrew helps shape and influence the Section’s views and policies regarding emerging technologies like AI and machine learning. Andrew writes frequently on these, and other IP and technology topics, in the Firm’s monthly blog and in other publications.

Andrew is also deeply committed to philanthropy, public service, and pro bono. He currently volunteers with the Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts (PVLA) where he represents low-income and nonprofit arts and cultural organizations in a variety of projects. Andrew is also a Philadelphia Bar Association Bar Observer where he works with the Board of a local nonprofit. Andrew has also served as a national volunteer advocate with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society working with Congressional leaders to increase patient access and affordability of blood cancer treatments, as well as a volunteer and film producer with Walk Now! For Autism Speaks fundraising to support children with autism and their families.

Prior to law school, Andrew spent over a decade working in the performing arts and entertainment industries of Southern California and Arizona where he first encountered the importance of intellectual property protections and developed a zeal for oral advocacy and entrepreneurship. Drawing on these experiences and his experience with family businesses, he founded and ran a startup mobile application and gaming company from 2014 to 2017, when he decided to attend law school.

Andrew graduated from Drexel University’s Thomas R. Kline School of Law in 2022 and is a CALI Award recipient for Technology for Law Practice.
